Chip Kelly: ‘never changed my mind; never… flip-flopped’

In the flurry of reports coming out of both Eugene and Tampa Sunday night and into Monday morning, there appeared to be two certainties: one, Chip Kelly at some point had agreed to leave Oregon to become the next head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and, two, he at some point had a change of heart and stayed with the Ducks.

There were even reports that the Ducks had gone so far as to give Kelly’s title to offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich.

Not so on all of those fronts says the coach who remained at the collegiate level and is well aware of the fact that National Signing Day is a mere six days away.

In a radio interview Thursday night, Kelly stated in very black-and-white language that he never accepted the Bucs job, and thus never “flip-flopped” back to the Ducks.
