By now we should all be familiar with Lamar Odom’s lack luster 2011-2012 season with the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks that included a stint with the Texas Legends, NBA Developmental league affiliate. It was so bad that Mark Cuban made Odom inactive for the rest of the season and playoffs to lessen the the damage. Rick Carlisle told ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM’s Galloway and Company a couple of weeks ago that “It’s a chapter that is one that will go down in Mavs history as just something that didn’t work out.”

It is safe to say that the Dallas Mavericks are trying to get rid of the 2010-2011 sixth man of the year as fast as possible. Any takers?

According to ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith says the Lakers might be interested. Smith goes on to say
“(Odom) desperately wants to come back (to Los Angeles) and wants to play for the Lakers.” Odom played the 1999-2003 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers and the 2004-2011 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Both of whom play all of their home games at the Staples Center.

Los Angeles is a comfort zone of some sort for Odom, who had a tumultuous 2011 offseason. Odom was in a car accident that killed a person, his estranged father has been ill and his reality tv celebrity wife and mother in law constantly wanted to film his every move. Let’s not mention the fact that he wanted out of the Lake Show after nearly being traded to the New Orleans Hornets for Chris Paul. Everyone realizes that Odom’s feelings were hurt.

The lakers desperately missed Odom’s presence as a sixth man this season despite making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The lakers traded for potential assets to fill the void of Lamar Odom’s scoring and defense. But nothing seemed like the right fit.

Smith goes on to say that ” Mike Brown ( lakers head coach) desperately wants him back . He’s going to talk to Buss and Lakers hierarchy to see what they can do about getting Lamar Odom back.”

This would be a great move for the Lakers if Lamar Odom of old shows up. The lakers also need to address rumors of moving one of their two 7 footers in Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
